Automated Deburring with the Orbitool Deburring Tool

Automated deburring is an integral part of the machining process in CNC machines. Like other machining tools, the deburring tools are stored in the tool magazine and automatically exchanged via the tool changer. Deburring is often viewed as a necessary evil that receives little attention, despite providing no direct value addition.

The benefits of automated deburring are numerous: finished parts come directly out of the machine, cycle times are shortened since no separate work step is required, and no additional part handling is needed. This leads to cost savings and more efficient use of employees. Additionally, noise and dirt generation are reduced, and the risk of injury is minimized. The deburring process is part of the production program and requires no manual intervention, avoiding defective or forgotten deburring. Logistical efforts are also reduced as no additional handling or transport of parts is necessary. This saves space and eliminates the need for additional deburring machines and workstations.

Another efficient method is robotic deburring, where deburring is performed by milling, brushing, or grinding. In this case, the tool can either be mounted on the robot and guided along the edges of the parts, or the part is brought by the robot to a fixed deburring unit. This method allows parts to be processed at multiple deburring stations and the robot to be used simultaneously for part handling, reducing cycle times and enabling efficient processing of complex contours.
